Implemented Livelihood Program


This is one of the implementation activities for Community Education on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM/C) and livelihood Support project in Sahil region, Somaliland  which is funded by KINDER NOT HILFE (KNH) – GERMANY.

 Distribution Hand tools

Agriculture anywhere in the world can hardly remain productive without efficient and optimal application of appropriate agricultural inputs. Based in this fact, 840 pieces of hand tools namely pickaxes, shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows have been provided to 210 farmers in the seven selected villages 30 farmers each. The selection of farmers was made with the help of the community leaders and in accordance with Candlelight criteria.

Construction of 500m irrigation canals

Candlelight mobilized and organized the community elders in Allaa’ule village to share the selection process of the sites and direct beneficiaries of the activity and to provide free of charge warehouses to store the construction material. Candlelight staff procured the required materials and delivered to the provided warehouses.  The main objective of this livelihood intervention was to improve the food security and the income of the farmers in Allaa’ule village by increasing the productivity of their farmlands. As a result 500 meter of water canals has been successfully constructed for the farmers in Allaa’ule village to facilitate more water to reach the farms. On the last day of completing this activity, Candlelight staff monitored the constructed irrigation canals.
