Awareness Raising Campaign on Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Strategies


Candlelight conducted 5 days village campaign to promote awareness and knowledge about climate change impacts and adaptation strategies in Dhuxunka, Walaalgo, Googeysa, Asha Ado and Ceel-same villages. A total of 300 community members attended this campaign including Coordinators for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in Awdal, Gabiley and Daadmadheedh regions.

200 energy-saving stoves were also distributed among 200 selected women in the 5 target villages as part of the climate change awareness campaign. This is expected to contribute to a reduction in energy consumption for cooking in the selected households.

Community Forest Management Committees (CFMCs) in 5 site closures in Dhuxunka, Ceel-same, Walaalgo, Googeysa and Bookh/ are provided with support materials including double wall water bottles for drinking, hot tea vacuums, portable solar systems, solar chargers, solar torches, safari boots and rain coats. This is done to enhance the capacity of these trained CFMCs on forest management activities.
