Rehabilitation and Management of Grazing and Forestry Reserves


The Somaliland Development Fund (SDF) project supports under the supervisions of ministry of Environment and Rural Development aims at the reduction of rural poverty in targeted areas in Somaliland by promoting community sound development through a multi-sect oral approach. The project emphasizes   the rehabilitation, protection and management of the natural resources which are stressed by land degradation and rapid climate change. Candlelight is working in Daallo and  Gacan  Libaah forests and Bookh grazing reserve.

Project Objectives:

To reduce the rural poverty  in the targated areas  by promoting a community based  approach to natural resources  management  while at the same time enhancing of MoERD to take its rightful  role in promoting environmentally sound  development  in Somaliland through a multi-sectoral approach.

Project Period: March 2015 to March 2016

Intervention Area : Bookh ,  Ga’an libaah,  Daalo and  Lafaruug

Main Activities :

  • Soil and water conservation and reseeding Tree Planting
  • Extension and capacity building of the community on understanding their natural resources and environment, measures to mitigate environmental problems and how to manage their grazing reserve properly.
  • Protection of the selected project areas
